Extended Welcome

We sincerely believe that on-campus living is an enriching part of your education. Our goal is to provide you with a suitable place to live at UCR: an environment (1) comprised of peers engaged in similar pursuits, (2) located in close proximity to campus, and (3) conducive to academic, social, cultural, and personal growth. It is our hope that on-campus housing will provide an environment that encourages your academic pursuits as well as your personal growth. To that end, we strive to provide you with a variety of programs and activities that will supplement and/or complement your in-classroom educational experience. We also strive to provide you with a safe and open-minded atmosphere in which the responsibilities of living as an adult and creating a positive living environment are fostered.

Stonehaven Student Apartments is not merely a place to eat and sleep. It houses a community composed of you, your roommates, your fellow residents throughout the complex, and us, the housing staff. Your community is made up of individuals from various ethnic and socioeconomic backgrounds. Involvement in activities with your fellow residents will expand your personal horizons and challenge you to discover the means by which our commonalities, rather than our differences, can help us live together in a productive manner.

We, the housing staff, cannot create your community. Only YOU can do that. Building an optimum community takes courage, consideration, responsibility, and amiability. Seeking to understand and respect the rights and interests of others helps make the community living experience meaningful for everyone. Before you act, consider the impact your behavior will have upon the lives of your fellow residents. We encourage you to inject your own personal energy and enthusiasm into the pursuit of this goal.

This resident handbook will provide direction for your interaction with others and your relationship with the living environment at Stonehaven Student Apartments. It contains multitudes of campus and community phone numbers, clarifications of housing policies, helpful hints, as well as a map of your apartment complex. It is very important that you realize that this handbook serves as a legally binding extension of your housing contract/lease. As such, you are responsible for adhering to all policies/procedures contained within it. While every effort has been made to be accurate and complete, all information in this handbook is subject to reasonable changes.

Again, welcome to your new home and community. Your choice of on-campus housing makes you an integral part of the university community and not merely a daily visitor to the campus. Our staff looks forward to being members of your community and having the opportunity to serve you.
